ORIGINAL: Jan. 30, 12:34 p.m.

The RCMP's Explosive Disposal Unit is heading to Kamloops after an explosive device was discovered in a residential neighbourhood.

Police say pedestrians walking on Dallas Drive came across what appears to be a handmade explosive device next to the road.

The area, near Viking Drive, has been secured for the protection of the public.

Police do not know who made the device, or why it was left in that location.

We will update with more details as they become available.
