Trial for teen bat beating

A trial date has been set for a man accused of assaulting a teen with a baseball bat in Kamloops.

Kristopher Shaun Teichrieb, 41, was arrested on June 19, 2016, outside his residence on Holt Street.

He allegedly attacked Jessie Simpson after he saw the 18-year-old on his driveway in the middle of the night.

The six-week trial, which was moved to Kelowna, is scheduled to start on Oct. 15.

Simpson, who was 18 at the time of the attack, was reportedly leaving a grad party when the assault took place.

Police said the teen suffered life-threatening injuries.

Teichrieb has been in custody at Kamloops Regional Correction Centre since 2016.

A B.C. Supreme Court judge ordered the trial moved to Kelowna. A change of venue application was brought forward by Teichrieb’s defence lawyer due to publicity around the case.
