Pool shutown delayed

The City of Kamloops has decided to delay yearly maintenance of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre for four months.

The city usually shuts down the facility for two weeks prior to the Labour Day long weekend.

However, due to lingering smoke in the region, regular shutdown won't occur until mid-December.

Parks and civic facilities manager, Jeff Putnam, recognizes the air quality in Kamloops continues to fluctuate and that residents will continue to look for indoor activities until the smoke clears.

We are happy to be able to hold off on regular maintenance until later this year to ensure that Kamloops residents and visitors can access indoor activities," said Putnam.

Residents will be provided with advanced notice when the dates for the December shut down are confirmed.

The aquatic centre will be closed Sunday, Sept. 3 for one day of cleaning and general maintenance, and Monday, Sept. 4 for the statutory holiday.

Fire evacuees staying in Kamloops can swim and shower for free at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Evacuees will need to show valid ID.
