Pedestrian killed

UPDATE: 7:30 a.m.

A 36-year-old Kamloops man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Kamloops.

The man was hit just before midnight Monday on Westsyde Road at 8th Street. He was rushed to Royal Inland Hospital, where he died.

Investigators closed Westsyde Road from midnight until 4:30 a.m.

The 20-year-old male Kamloops driver stayed at the scene. 

"Witness reports indicate the vehicle may have been speeding prior to the collision," said police.

Kamloops RCMP shut down Westsyde Road overnight for what they are calling a "very serious" pedestrian collision.

A male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near 8th Street and was rushed to Royal Inland Hospital with very serious injuries, Staff Sgt. Robert Daly said in a press release issued at 12:30 a.m.

The road was closed in both directions as police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene. 

The lone driver remained on scene and is co-operating with the investigation.
