Body recovered from lake

The body of a man whose vehicle was found abandoned in Savona last week has been recovered from Kamloops Lake.

On Sunday, July 31, Kamloops Rural RCMP received a report of a vehicle that appeared to be abandoned near the dump road in Savona.

Police found that the vehicle is registered to a man from the Lower Mainland, but he was not found in the immediate vicinity.

Officers working in collaboration with volunteers from Kamloops Search and Rescue then searched the area on foot, with ATVs and a police dog. A Ministry of Environment boat patrolled Kamloops Lake as well, but the man could not be located.

Then, on Saturday, Aug. 6, a body was spotted in the lake.  A Kamloops RCMP boat recovered the man from the lake and officers were able to identify the remains as those of the owner of the vehicle parked near Savona.

Foul play is not suspected.

The case is now with the B.C. Coroner’s Office for further investigation.
