Huge hockey hoedown

One of the biggest hockey events in Kamloops' history gets underway this evening.

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada will bring all things hockey to the B.C. Interior.

To kick off the festivities that run from Feb. 3-6, a free outdoor celebration and concert will be held at Sun Peaks Resort from 7:45 to 11 p.m. tonight.

Among the hockey royalty in attendance will be Don Cherry, Ron MacLean, Trevor Linden, Lanny McDonald, Darcy Tucker, Mark Napier, Wendel Clark, Cassie Campbell-Pascall and others.

The Holy Grail of hockey will also be in town and the Stanley Cup will be at several venues throughout the event.

A celebrity luncheon will be held Feb. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tournament Capital Centre, with special guests MacLean, Cherry and Linden, as well as numerous NHL alumni, the Stanley Cup and Memorial Cup.

The WHL's 50th Season Pro Am game will also take place on Feb. 4, from 7:30-10 p.m. at Sandman Centre.
The game features teams made up of NHL and WHL alumni in a family-oriented game that will include such names as Lanny McDonald, Mark Recchi, Darcy Tucker, Wendel Clark, Mark Napier, Kirk McLean and others.

The Music of Hockey with host Ron MacLean will be held Feb. 5 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Sandman Centre.
Musical guests include Dave Bidini & Bidini Band, Tom Wilson, Barney Bentall, Amelia Curran, Craig Northey, Bryan Trottier and Lindy Vopnfjord.

Hockey clinics will also be held Feb. 5.

On Feb. 6 the Scotiabank Community HockeyFest which will include on and off-ice clinics led by elite Kamloops Minor Hockey Association coaches and NHL alumni.

The Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada Outdoor Festival on Feb. 6 will give fans one last chance to get autographs and pictures with the hockey stars.
