Fatal crash on Hwy. 5

One man is dead following a collision on the YellowHead Highway 5, near the Rayleigh ball fields.

The man was driving alone in his pick-up truck headed northbound, around 2:40 p.m., when he was struck by a southbound pick-up truck that crossed the centre line.

Cpl. Cheryl Bush says police have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors in the incident, but the cause remains under investigation.

The four occupants of the southbound pick-up are being treated in hospital, one of them has serious injuries, the others are considered to have non-life threatening injuries, says Bush.

The highway has been reduced to single lane alternating traffic, it will be that way for six to eight hours. Motorists are being advised to use alternate routes.
