Hwy 5 open after deadly crash

1:30 p.m. Highway 5 south of Barriere has now been reopened to single-lane alternating traffic.

Barriere RCMP have reported that the closure on Highway 5 this morning was caused by a fatal crash involving a motorcycle.

According to Sgt Edward Preto, the motorcycle was attempting to pass a semi-truck when it collided with a vehicle heading north.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and the occupants of the northbound vehicle were taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

The semi-truck did not stop at the scene and Barriere RCMP are trying to locate the driver to act as a witness to the incident.

Highway 5 remains closed during the investigation and travellers are urged to check DriveBC for updates on when it will reopen.
