One man had to be airlifted and another driven to hospital after their truck tumbled down an embankment in Savona today, killing a dog that was on board.
According to RCMP Cst. Rod Ecket, the truck was headed eastbound up a hill on Highway 1 when it began to have mechanical issues, crossed the centre line and had to avoid oncoming traffic.
"The driver could not stop before he got to the shoulder and eventually rolled over the edge, tumbling down the hill," he said.
The passenger was taken away in the BC Ambulance helicopter, but is reported to be in stable condition.
The driver walked up the hill and appeared to be uninjured, he was driven to hospital.
There was also a dog in the truck and he passed away at the scene.
The Ecket said it was too early to say whether any charges were being laid and did not indicate whether they thought that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
