Field on fire

Video by: Simon Hergott - Trevor Rockliffe

Update 4:30 p.m.

The fire burning east of Kamloops is now 75 per cent contained.

At its height, the blaze was 0.5 hectares in size, or 1.2 acres.

"There are three initial attack fire fighters continuing to complete a fire guard around it and extinguish any hot spots," says Fire Information officer Kayla Pepper.

No structures were threatened, but Pepper says this is a reminder of how dry the grass is at this time and how easily a fire can grow out of control.

The BC forest fire service has been called to a fire in a field at Shuswap Road E., and Harper Ranch Road.

The Kamloops fire department was initially called to the scene because of a vehicle fire, which quickly spread to the surrounding dry grass.

Fire Information officer Kayla Pepper says, "A car fire east of Kamloops started the fire. It has spread to a field and we have sent a three person initial attack crew to build a guard around the fire to stop it from spreading."

Pepper says the size of the fire is about 3000 sq./ft.

We will have more details as they become available.
