17-year-old arrested

Kamloops RCMP have reported that Penticton RCMP have taken the 17-year-old wanted on a Canada wide warrant into custody.

Kamloops RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a young person wanted on a Canada wide warrant for Uttering Threats and Breach of Probation.

Due to the serious nature of the offence and the need for police to locate the young person immediately, the RCMP has taken the unusual step of seeking application for disclosure under Section 110 (4) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

At the time of the publication his name and photo were published under this disclosure.

This ex parte application for leave to publish states that:

(4) A youth justice court judge shall, on the ex parte application of a peace officer, make an order permitting any person to publish information that identifies a young person as having committed or allegedly committed an indictable offence, if the judge is satisfied that

(a) there is reason to believe that the young person is a danger to others; and

(b) publication of the information is necessary to assist in apprehending the young person.

The RCMP sought application in Kamloops provincial court on March 27, 2014 and was granted the order by Judge S.R. Harrison.

This order is in effect until the young person is arrested or upon expiration on April 1, 2014 at 3 p.m..

At such time, the media are reminded that they must return to the existing non-disclosure provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  Upon arrest or the expiration of the order the name and photo cannot be rebroadcast or published.

Anyone who has seen this young person is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP immediately or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or 9-1-1.
