Suspected drunk runs over man

At around 10 p.m. police received a report of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 5A and Rogers Way.

A driver was trying to make a left turn into the parking lot when the collision occurred.  The two vehicles suffered minor damage and both pulled into the parking lot. The driver of the vehicle that was struck got out to speak to the other driver, who had also exited his vehicle, to exchange information.

The other driver became agitated,  jumped back into his vehicle, gunned the engine, and drove off quickly apparently running over the other driver. The man rolled over the hood and off the car.  RCMP say he was not injured.  The suspect then drove off.

When an officer arrived at the scene to investigate the suspect driver was being driven back to the scene by a friend.  He was arrested.  The 34-year-old Clearwater man was found to be impaired and provided breath samples that were more than three times the legal limit.  The man was held for several hours and will be appearing in Kamloops Court at a later date.

He is facing several charges including impaired and dangerous driving.

Police also did a number of road checks throughout the city Friday night.  RCMP say drivers are still not getting the message.

Officers found three other impaired drivers; two were issued roadside suspensions and one refused to provide a breath sample and is being charged criminally.
