KAMPLAN still not in the can

The City of Kamloops will work with a community advisory committee to review and update the 'Official Community Plan' or KAMPLAN. The original plan was created in 2004.

This two-year planning process will review existing land use patterns and the progression of KAMPLAN throughout the years to ensure future growth can be accommodated, considering these main pillars:

  1. sustainability
  2. economic
  3. social/environmental.

The committee was brought together to represent all aspects of the Kamloops community including four public members, and one member under the age of 25 Several agencies are also represented:

  • Canadian Home Builders’ Association
  • Central Interior
  • Kamloops Natural Areas Advisory Committee
  • Social Planning Council
  • Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.

The committee also includes two City councilors and City staff.

The City says the diversity of the members ensures KAMPLAN is consistent with community policies and issues.

The committee will begin meeting soon, and will continue until the KAMPLAN review and update is complete and adopted by Council, which is anticipated to be in late 2015 or early 2016.

There will be multiple opportunities for public input throughout the process, which will be advertised on the City website at www.kamloops.ca/kamplan, as well as through the media.
