Rumours and things

I get many e-mails and this one is interesting. I think more and more of the people in B.C. think we should have a holiday in February as Alberta does.

Good Day John,

Just read your article from today on the coming winter. I really think we need to have a February Family Day. Have you seen how late Easter is in 2011? Make it the same as Alberta for simplicity sake. With the speed that our present Premier can implement changes, we should be able to have it in effect this February.

I'm sure I'm not alone on this issue.

Were you laughing out loud when Randy and Mrs. Quaid showed up in Kerrisdale in or near a bank and were arrested on outstanding warrants from Santa Barbara? This two have told authorities that they are on the list to be murdered. The word is they were actually in the Royal Bank talking mortgages because they were interested in buying a home here.

Then in their hearing it was pointed out by their lawyer that the wife
Evi is a Canadian as her father was born here. These two knuckleheads are wanted in the U.S. for allegedly skipping a $10,000 hotel bill and living in and damaging a property that they formally owned.

The Chapman family, known for the TV show The Bounty Hunters, are on the trail and told the world they would find them and bring them back.

I can’t understand how they got across the border and then for the life of me how our court system gave them a bond and told them to show up in a few days. What kind of game is this? Canadians coming home to Canada have more trouble at the Oroville border just to the south of us.

These are criminals and should have been taken back to the border immediately. Why do we create these public relations nightmares for ourselves? The world is laughing at us. Will we never learn?

Something new is on the menu at a renovated Starbucks in Seattle: beer and wine. The Olive Way store that had been closed for three months reopened, and is the first under the Starbucks brand to offer alcohol.

Craft beer and local wines go on sale after 4 PM. The idea is to offer drinks and a wider variety of savory food that will attract customers after the morning espresso rush. Renovations also include a circular coffee bar, muted colours and dimmed lighting.

The store is one of Starbucks’ percolators for ideas that could someday spread to other locations.

Company officials have declined to say how soon elements from the shop might appear elsewhere.

Summerland Microphone manufacturer Advanced Audio was recently chosen by Grammy record of the year producer – buying a full set of recording microphones! Dave Thomas (owner) is a sound Guru – producing Fet and Tube Mics that outperform many high-priced studio microphones. Dave offers his mics at a price range that any home artist can get into – but maintains a quality level that is recognized by professional recording artists the world around. Other well-known clientele include:

Dan Wilson who won a Grammy for song of year in 2007 in collaboration with the Dixie Chick's on the song "Not Yet Ready to Make Nice".

Jacquire King who won the Grammy last year for producing the Kings of Leon and who also produces Nora Jones, bought the complete [microphone] set.

Producer Craig Northey also uses Advanced Audio microphones (he wrote the theme for the CBC show Corner Gas and plays in the band The Odds).

Bill Henderson of Chilliwack and his brother Ed Henderson who also plays in Chilliwack bought Advanced Audio microphones and used them to record his classical solo CD "Intimate".

There are several other Nashville producers and engineers using Advanced Audio microphones.

Boston Pizza has launched a new ad campaign to introduce its new online ordering tool, or what the chain refers to as "finger cooking". Through three TV ads, viewers are introduced to Bill, who explains how easy finger cooking is – you can do it while waiting for a sports clip, or lying down.
The campaign is based on the insight that guys don't necessarily want to cook and therefore need an easy solution.
