Rumours and things

We have found a new Asian-Filipino cuisine restaurant close to the Mission and you can pick up or have the food delivered. You can pick up an order on your way home. It is open 11am to 9pm daily Monday through Saturday. Closed Monday nights. The family makes a very special buffet brunch Sundays from 11am till 3pm.

We have eaten three meals in new Asian-Filipino restaurant Kaibigan in the plaza at the corner of KLO and Gordon. Each time we tried something new. The food was fresh, well prepared and tasty. Great food, good service, reasonably priced, and FAST! What more can you ask for? I recommend this restaurant to anybody who wants a great meal. The food is delicious. 250-868-0811

The Vancouver Canucks are doing really well at the ticket window these days as the club has seen an increase in pre-sales. So their actions over the summer have peaked the interest once again. The Canucks announced that the most expensive single ticket price for the premium games will be $300 and the least expensive for the same games will be $85 per ticket.

They're here and they are stacked high in your local grocery store. It’s September and it's Chinese Mandarin time. Isn’t this early? I know the retailers have started to put out the first Christmas promotions and stores like Costco have had their great Christmas display items out there since August.

Back when I was a kid and we were lucky if you got the Japanese oranges for Christmas in your stocking. I think we had oranges maybe for the month of December but they certainly weren’t here in September. How could you forget?
Eight pounds of oranges in the wooden box that our kids would use for their toys.

Now China, Korea and Japan are shipping mandarins to this country for that time of year. Being first on the market means more and these countries have planted large crops of this fruit for the world to share at this time of the year. But September?

I told my readers many months ago that Christmas promotion and shopping would start earlier this year. I think it was Sears that told the world that Christmas would start early in their stores this year because they wanted to be ahead of the game because people were going to shop earlier than they have in the past. I believe that to be true also because the savvy shoppers are looking for deals and you know the retailers are going to give them lots of pre-Christmas opportunities to pick up a bargain.

When you look at the calendar you know it's getting closer and these days seem to be slipping by faster than ever.

I have my Sears catalogue so I’m making the list.

It must have been about three years ago or maybe more that Wendy’s was getting ready to enter the fray with a breakfast menu. There were test spots in the U.S. to give the menu items a try with the public and then we were told that Vancouver would also test the new recipes. Breakfast has been very much a profit area for some of the fast food places that have successfully launched early morning quick food.

Wendy's is giving breakfast another try with a test of items at 10 US restaurants. The new menu being tested includes traditional items such as a sausage biscuit and coffee and more distinctive items such as a bacon fire-roasted burrito, egg and cheese panini, and artisan egg sandwich.
Wendy's has made several forays into breakfast, but it has never had the success that other chains have achieved. No word on when we will get a taste of these new goodies.
