Here and there

The governments of Canada and PEI are paying $750,000(US) to bring the Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa talk show to the island for a four day run to promote the tourism market of the island and Canada. The popular morning talk show does very well in the ratings. Niagara Falls brought the show to Canada for promotion just two years ago. That was the second time for Niagara to host the show. The first time was in 1996.

The show, with hosts Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin, will broadcast live from Confederation Landing Park in Charlottetown from July 12-15.

The total cost to taxpayers of bringing the show is $1 million, with $200,000 from Ottawa and $800,000 from the province.

The Bull's-Eye barbecue sauce brand from Kraft Foods is launching a major advertising campaign as it adds four new flavors and tries to capitalize on growing interest in barbecuing. The campaign, with the tag "The Bold Choice," targets a male audience, urging men to choose bold sauces over sweet.

We hear about eating "real" food -- but what exactly is a "real" food and where can we find it? Authors of a new book called "Real Food has Curves" show us how to move from processed and packaged to delectably real meals.

Real Food Has Curves: How to Get Off Processed Food, Lose Weight, and Love What You Eat. Who hasn’t tried to change all that? Who hasn’t walked into a supermarket and thought, I’m going to eat better from now on? So you load your cart with whole-grain crackers, fish fillets and asparagus. Sure, you have a few barely satisfying meals before you think, "Hey, life’s too short for this!" And soon enough, you’re back to square one. For real change, you need a real plan. It’s in your hands.

Real Food Has Curves is a fun and ultimately rewarding seven-step journey to rediscover the basic pleasure of fresh, well-prepared natural ingredients. It’s time to get off the processed and packaged merry-go-round. It’s time to be satisfied, nourished, thinner, and above all, happier. It’s time for real food.

Bruce Weinstein is the author and I understand Walmart has a deal on this new tome.

Organizers of the Osoyoos Celebrity Wine Festival, June 10 to 13,
2010, in Osoyoos, BC, are reaching out to aspiring filmmakers for a new event kicking off the 2nd annual festival. The ‘Vinos’ are the world’s first amateur wine commercial film festival and wine enthusiasts are competing for cash prizes and wine by producing a 60-second video of their favourite BC winery.

We know that there are a lot of people out there who love B.C. wine,” said Jason Priestley, one of the celebrities involved with the festival, which raised $55,000 for children’s charities last year. “So why not grab your friends and a camcorder and make a 60 second video commercial about your favorite B.C. wine or winery? We encourage creative types to have some fun, create some laughs and maybe win a prize.”

Festival spokesman Glenn Fawcett says the Vinos are the world’s first wine commercial film festival and contest. “This is inspired by the wildly successful Big Rock Eddies beer commercial film festival. The result is going to be a lively, laugh-filled evening that will feel like a spoof of an Oscar’s party right in the middle of Osoyoos.”

Twenty-four finalists will be chosen and screened at the June 10 Vinos party. All 24 finalists receive two free tickets to the Vinos party plus one night’s accommodation in Osoyoos during the festival.
