Rumours and things

I'm afraid we can probably expect some higher gas prices for our vehicles this winter. When I started to write this the average gas price across the nation was $1.02 but here in the Kelowna it was $1.05.9 but that has come down. It was only in October where we were down to 96 cents. It is always amazing how fuel goes up although the product at the pumps is old product that was probably refined from oil that was delivered 90 days ago. Why is that?

For more than 20 years, Sleeman Breweries has been a leading brewer and premium beer distributor in Canada. Based in Guelph, Ontario, Sleeman products are available in almost pubs throughout Canada. With more than 900 employees and five breweries across Canada, Sleeman's is one of the fastest growing beer manufacturers in North America. Their brewery in Vernon is Okanagan Springs.

The company makes a variety of unique brews that draw on a family recipe dating from 1834, including the best-selling Sleeman's Cream Ale and Honey Brown Lager.

Because of the beer's increasing popularity and the need for reliable vehicles to support that demand and deliver its products on time, Dave Joyce, Sleeman Breweries driver crew leader, runs a fleet of nine Western Star® 4900 FA trucks.

Upon purchasing their first Western Star trucks, from the Western Star production plant in Portland, Ore., it was a hands-on role in building their trucks. The manufacturer impressed them from the moment they walked in the door.

The team at Western Star took the time to understand exactly what type of truck they were looking for and offered many detailed customization options for both inside and out.

All of Sleeman Breweries' Western Star's feature a 515 hp, Detroit Diesel® Series 60® engine, and are spec'd with chrome detailing, plush carpeting, leather seats, and satellite radio. Built for heavier applications such as hauling beer.

Be careful this year when you rent a car in the U.S. because there are going to be extra charges on your bill I’m sure. Whatever deal you make, whether it’s on the phone, through the Internet or right at the counter in the airport, there are all kinds of hidden fees they can get you for. It doesn’t have to happen when you check out because they have your credit card. The new tax is from states that consider that you have just rented a taxi service. You can be charged in some States an excise tax. Then there are things that can add up to twenty percent of your bill. I recently saw a bill that did just that from a reader.

Alberta hasn’t forgotten the money Peter Puck still owes them from the Gainers Meat Packing deal and they have gone after Peter Pocklington in the U.S. There is a judgment against him for $2 million, accrued interest of $11.3 million. The interest goes up $884.03 a day. Pocklington is a former Kelowna resident and owner of the Edmonton Oilers. He now lives in Palm Desert and will be on trial there for some misdeeds in business and the trial is set for January. The "Puckman" has also just released his book “I’d Trade Him Again.” What did he say to the media about the Alberta debt?

“I never got a dime of that money.”
