Suppression of disease not good

Suppression is good when it involves fire however when it involves disease in the human body it is not good. In fact, it can be one of the worst things we can do to ourselves. There are many examples of how suppressing a condition can be harmful and I will illustrate a few of them.

There are many great examples of the suppression of disease having disastrous consequences eczema and asthma are two great examples. Infants who have eczema or at least, what has been diagnosed as eczema (that is a whole other column right there) and have it treated with all sorts of creams, ointments and potions are actually looking at some deeper, more serious problems down the road. Asthma as a side effect of the poor management of childhood eczema is more common than you may have ever thought. In fact, the correlation has been proven and seen over and over.

Suppression of disease is not limited to just conditions on the physical level mental suppression has many liabilities as well. Behaviour modifications run rampant in the pharmaceutical world with anti-depressants, tranquilizers, sleeping pills and anti-anxiety pills just to give a small example. Many of these conditions if driven deep enough are considered some of the biggest contributors to physical disease such as cancer, cardiac problems, headaches, ulcers and so on.

The question that is most often asked what is better, depression or anxiety or the alleviation of symptoms with pharmaceuticals this, so the person can function normally in society? That is a big question however the answer is simple and clear. Temporary measures with pharmaceuticals may be fine but long term use will drive your suppressed condition deep into your health causing chronic disease.

This may hit home for many people but use the analogy of having a house full of clutter instead of hauling most of the stuff away, you stuff in down in the basement and you continually do this for decades. You can only imagine the consequences.

What happens to a person, who after a death of a loved one never took the time or was allowed to grieve, instead, were prescribed emotional suppression therapy with pharmaceuticals they will in time become sick. Maybe the correlation is not there because the sickness happens years after.

Look at what happens if you continue eating and never have a bowel movement, or after a bad relationship and you jump into another one immediately with out figuring out what the heck went wrong with the last one. The fact is, suppression is bad for the health.

Even so-called natural products can give us a false sense of security when we use them. We think that just because they are natural that they must be alright to use. Because they are natural really means that they are a better alternative than some of the products out there but they can be suppressive as well.

A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself whether the product you are using allows the natural elimination of toxins from the body or if it is keeping things inside. I am referring to chronic situations, not acute.

In homeopathic medicine the intention is to be non-suppressive allowing the body to work on its own whether emotionally or physically, never giving or taking more than can be handled by that individual. It is a more time consuming process but ultimately the results are positive.

True healing is non-suppressive and true suppression is non-healing the best policy is to think long term rather than short term relief.
