Festival Fashion: Footwear

Outdoor music festivals like Keloha Music and Arts Festival are equal parts fun and exhausting - the full days, hot heat, and after-parties followed by an early wake-up call to catch your favourite bands playing early in the day leaves little time for rest and relaxation.  Your festival fashion should match this - I'm all for bringing out the fun pieces, but function is extremely important, especially when we're talking about footwear.  Since you'll be strolling the grounds, laying on the grass between shows, and dancing in the pit, you'll need a pair of shoes that can be comfortable, fashionable and easy to take off when you want to let your inner hippie out to frolic through the grass.

Here are my top picks to add interest to your outfit and keep it comfortable.

The Cowboy Boot: A little bit country mixed with a little bit of rock and roll is my favourite way to wear the cowboy boot.  This boot is made for walking. And dancing.

The Studded Ankle Boot: This boot adds edge to any festival outfit and calls out to the "It" shoe of the season, the Chloe Susanna boot.

The Fringed Boot: Fringe is the word this festival season, with the detail showing up on tops, vests, and, as my favourite piece, a pair of suede boots.  The look is oh so hippie when paired with cutoffs, a head band and a cape.

The Wedge Sneaker: Isabel Marant made this mash up of sporty-meets-high-fashion a summer must-have.  Wear them with a pair of track shorts and varsity jacket to wear the sporty trend head to toe, or just add a dash of athletics by pairing them with a mini dress.  Not into the wedge? A pair of classic Converse sneakers will have the same impact.

The Gladiator Sandal: It's back! This is my favourite sandal of the summer, perfect to let your feet breathe easy in the Okanagan heat.  Wear the practical ankle-high version with a summer dress or printed shorts, or the go for the high-drama knee-grazing style for making a statement. Make sure you watch out for tan lines though!

The Wooden Sandal: The wooden base and soft leather straps of this 70s era staple adds some versatile texture to any of your festival looks.  Choose one with a blocked heel to add height without sacrificing comfort.
