Festival Fashion: Head gear

What started with Kate Moss decked in Wellies and cutoffs at Gatstonbury has transformed into a fashion genre of its own. The Festival Fashion phenomenon has transformed from rock-and-roll campsite grunge into chic undone bohemian-city-street-wear.

With KELOHA just around the corner, catching up on the playlist won't be your only preparation for the festival.  Planning outfits and buying festival-ready pieces is just as important as knowing all the words to MGMT's Kids.

Festival fashion can, at times, get a bit out of hand with clothing that doesn't make sense for your every day wardrobe, so what are the right pieces to buy? I'm here to help you navigate your way through all that is festival fashion in the hopes that these styles will not only get you noticed at this summer's concerts, but also translate into your everyday summer wardrobe.

We'll start off by talking about headwear.  As a staple of the festival scene, headware is a great way to mix fashion and function.  Festivals usually mean spending all day in the heat and besides providing protection, headwear can transform a simple outfit of, say, denim cutoffs and a white tee into something interesting. And as a bonus? It can provide a quick fix for bad hair days and keep you covered in that hot sun this July.

Here are a few of my favourite ways to dress up that noggin:

  1. Floppy hats with round oversized sunglasses: wide brimmed or short brimmed floppy hats are the perfect way to keep the sun out of your eyes and rock that bohemian laid back vibe
  2. Head Scarf with wayfarers: grab a printed scarf from your closet and tie it turban style for a 1920's vibe that is oh so The Great Gasby.
  3. Bandana with aviators: fold it wide and tie over forehead, very rock and roll a la Brett Michaels.
