Kidney Foundation Helps

The Kidney Foundation and its volunteers will be delivering kidney-branded socks to 3,300 dialysis patients across BC and the Yukon as part of their WARM THE SOLE Campaign.

The Kidney Foundation recently learned they were selected as one of the Aviva Community Fund’s Small Idea
winners and received $10,000 to purchase socks for each and every dialysis patient in BC. “One of the many ways that The Kidney Foundation supports kidney patients is by providing comfort items,” says Pia Schindler, Executive Director, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC & Yukon Branch. “We know patients undergoing dialysis endure many side effects, one being that their feet can often get cold. Through our WARM THE SOLE campaign, it is our hope that these cozy socks can not only provide a bit of warmth to their soles, but also warm their SOUL through their journey. As an added bonus to this campaign, we were very fortunate to partner with a company called YOUR CITY SPORTS for the sock manufacturing that is donating an equal number of socks to homeless in the lower mainland. That’s a total of 6,600 “soles” we’re warming!”

A total of 50 Aviva Community Fund small idea winners were selected across Canada to receive $10,000
towards their project, and the WARM THE SOLE campaign received among the highest number of votes from
brokers, community members and the public for their idea to win funding. “Campaigns like the Aviva Community Fund are successful over the long term because they directly fund local programs, where we also happen to work and live,” says Colm Holmes, President and CEO of Aviva Canada.

“As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, under the theme of bringing people together, we couldn’t be more proud to support ideas – big and small – that will have a lasting impact in their communities.” “We were thrilled to learn that The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC & Yukon Branch was one of the recipients of the Aviva Community Fund, and thank them for their amazing community support and impact. We also want to say a big thank you to all those who voted and shared our idea, we couldn’t have done it without your support,” adds Schindler.

Kidney Foundation staff and volunteers will be making these very special sock deliveries to dialysis clinics in
BC in the coming weeks.
