National volunteer week

From April 15 to 21, Volunteer Canada and KCR Community Resources, the Volunteer Centre for the Central Okanagan, celebrate Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers during National Volunteer Week (NVW). This year marks the 15th year Volunteer Canada has delivered the campaign in partnership with Investors Group, a longstanding supporter of NVW and Canada’s corporate leader in volunteer recognition.

KCR will be celebrating local volunteers at a kiosk in Orchard Park Mall on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Visit the kiosk at the mall, share your volunteer story and receive a small token of appreciation for your volunteer contributions to our community. “Volunteers are the heartbeat of a community.  As the volunteer centre, it is our opportunity to say, Thank You,” says Stephanie Moore, Community Services Project Coordinator at KCR.

This year's National Volunteer Week theme is: “Celebrate the Value of Volunteering – building confidence, competence, connections and community”.
Volunteering is often seen as a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return. And while volunteering is a form of service, many volunteers will tell you that “you get more than you give”. From opportunities to develop new skills, to finding deep and meaningful personal connections, the magic of volunteering is that it creates social and economic value for all.
