Capes for a cause

Use your powers for good! A night of Heroes and Villains awaits you on Friday, Feb. 24 at Third Space Coffee. A group of Kelowna locals have teamed up to put on the themed social to raise funds to build Living Waters Secondary School in Tanzania, Africa, a project of Hope for the Nations.

“The event will be great time for a great cause,” said Heather Pesta, volunteer event coordinator. “Tickets include a drink, desserts, prizes and more!”

Early bird tickets are $25 until February 15, and then $30 thereafter. The event is 19 plus from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Third Space Coffee, 103 - 1708 Dolphin Ave. Tickets can be purchased online at https://heroesandvillainsthemedsocial.eventbrite.com/. There will be a limited number of capes and masks available by donation at the door.

The secondary school is taking an innovative approach to sustainable construction, as it is not only built from mostly hand labour, but also shipping containers. The shipping containers mean the school can be built to last and quickly, with end of March as the anticipated finished date.

“We’re close to our fundraising goal of $350,000, with only $90,000 to go,” said Cathleen Loge, Project Director.  “All donations are matched by Kelowna’s ENCOMPASS Benefits. We’ll also be fundraising for desks, chairs and books.”
