RCMP/Fire give to hospital

Penticton RCMP officers and firefighters are the latest to donate to the Penticton Regional Hospital patient care tower.

On Thursday, the RCMP and fire department gave a cheque in the amount of $954 to John Moorhouse, development and communications officer for the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation.

"Fire and police are both in the business where we have a lot of dealings with the hospital, we see the suffering people go through with accidents, and see the great care, that they (the hospital) give," said Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth. "And on a personal level many of us had children born in the hospital and feel it's a great opportunity to invest back in our hometown."

The funds raised were from The Battle of the Badges, (Hogs vs Hosers) hockey game, Sunday, at Memorial Arena.

The hockey game featured a team of RCMP members playing against the firefighters, with the RCMP winning 12-3.

Wrigglesworth served as the referee.

Moorhouse said this is a great example of community support through fundraisers such as this.

"Our thanks to the RCMP and fire department for all they've done," he said.
