Habitat for Humanity Made Family Day Extra Special for Two Local Families

Habitat for Humanity Kelowna hosted two home dedication ceremonies on BC Family Day.  The first ceremony took place in Rutland with Adam Nauman and Julia Thiebert and their three children.  The second ceremony took place in West Kelowna with Jeff and Lori Maranda and their two children. Both families were given the keys to their new homes; as well as, a gift basket from Proctor Gamble and key racks hand made by Habitat Kelowna volunteers with recycled product from the ReStore. The event was attended by several of the Partner Families that Habitat for Humanity Kelowna has helped over the 25 years that the organization has been operating in the Okanagan.

Receiving the keys to their new home is not the end of the road for the families – as part of a partnership agreement, they have committed to working 500 hours of community service, or ‘sweat-equity hours’ towards a down payment on the home.

Ed McLean, chair of the Habitat for Humanity Kelowna Board of Directors paid tribute to the many volunteers and local sponsors who dedicate time and resources to supporting the Habitat Housing Program making homeownership dream a reality for Okanagan families.

Habitat for Humanity has two projects underway in the Okanagan over the 2015-2016 period.  The Peachland Project on land donated by the District of Peachland will provide homes for six more families and the Habitat for Humanity Vernon Chapter has their own project in Vernon providing three Vernon families with homes.
