Gala set to 'Enchant'

It is the biggest fundraiser the SPCA holds each year, and it’s always a sold out event.

The BCSPCA Charity Fundraising Gala presented by The Thomas Alan Budd Foundation takes place Saturday, November 1 at the Coast Capri Hotel.

Every year guests are given an opportunity to support a project or fund to support local animals.

This year, the Kelowna team will focus on creating a Spay and Neuter Fund to support the overpopulation issue and also the creation of a barn on the property to house farm animals from cruelty investigations and seizures. The barn will be the first of its kind in the Okanagan.

“We are focused on continuing to provide the best care, support and environment possible for all animals that come into our care that being domestic, farm and wild  animals,” says Suzanne Pugh, Kelowna branch manager.

Last year the BC SPCA supported over 41,000 animals throughout British Columbia.

“We certainly have a few things we need to focus on in the Okanagan, including cruelty and pet overpopulation. We continue to see a growing problem with our cat overpopulation and simply not enough homes.”

The theme of the event this year will be ‘One Enchanted Evening,’ and will feature a silent and live auction for:

  • A Big White get-a-way
  • Tickets to Bryan Adams
  • A Kelowna Rockets' box complete with food and beverage credit
  • A commissioned art piece by local artist Alex Fong
  • Hand-picked wine from the private cellar of Tom Budd

“Every year, we feature BC SPCA Kelowna staff and animals with a runway show,” mentions Heather Harrison, branch fundraising support.

“This is always the highlight of the night as everyone gets really excited to see our furry friends.”
