Tiptoe through the lavender

Festival season is here, and there is no shortage of celebrations in the Okanagan.

On July 13, the Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm will be hosting its 12th annual Art in the Garden.

Coinciding with the lavender harvest, the family friendly festival takes place each year at the farm located at the corner of Takla and Saucier Roads in South Kelowna.

This year’s theme is ‘The Chair in the Garden’, a vintage gathering for families with art, food and music.

The farm has organized a juried exhibit and is inviting the public to place entries in the following categories: upcycled pallet/barrel chairs, vintage garden chairs, and fairy garden chairs (for children and for children at heart). Entry forms are available at the farm or online.

The exhibition begins on Saturday, July 12. On Sunday, July 13 there is a judge’s breakfast and voting; judges include: Maxine DeHart, Michelle and Chris Sorenson, Annabel Stanley and Jennifer Schell.

You can pick your own lavender bouquet, weave a lavender wreath or wand and take a guided tour, during the festival. History buffs will enjoy the farm’s heritage museum and there are plenty of activities for children such as searching for ‘Bob’, getting lost in the hedge maze, following the scavenger hunt and washing laundry with a hand pump and wash board.

Festivities get underway at 10 a.m. each day and and run until 6 p.m.
