Okanagan trestle tours
The Okanagan Trestles Tour is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Myra Canyon Trestles. The original construction took place between 1912 and 1914.
The Okanagan Trestles Tour is a self paced, supported ride (not a race) on the famous KVR from Myra Canyon to Penticton (80 km ride). The new (40 km ride) Chute Lake to Penticton is also proving to be very popular.
Interest has grown in participation and sponsorship has grown as well. “People really enjoy having the ride organized for them, the shuttle service, water and snacks on route, first aid on route, mechanic support on route and the great finish celebration with live music, BBQ, beer and wine. It is the perfect summer day," said event organizer Glenn Bond.
Cannery Brewing, Penticton Lakeside Resort and Interior Savings are among the new sponsors supporting the event. Specialized Bikes is the major sponsor and has provided amazing draw prizes from helmets, tires, clothing and more.
The three Okanagan Specialized dealers (Freedom, Fresh Air and Olympia) provide mechanical support on route.
Participants also have the chance to win beer from the Cannery or wine from the Naramata Bench.
Big White has a team at the start scanning everyone on route and at the finish so everyone is accounted. There are two professional photographers on route to capture the day.
Participants can purchase a photo after the event as well.
Rail Trails are popular for cycling around the world and we have one of the best routes in the Okanagan. The 80 km ride from Myra Canyon to Penticton provides incredible views of Okanagan Lake; you will cross 20 trestles and encounter 3 tunnels. Mountain Bikes are recommended or a hybrid bike with wider tires.
Experience the Okanagan Trestles Tour Sunday July 6, 2014.
Registration is open until June 30 at www.okanagantrestlestour.com
