'Hot dog' hero gives back

On Friday, Castanet told you about a food truck vendor who saved a little dog in a hot car.

That vendor, Scott Hermanson of Hermco Streetfood, says after the article came out about his dog rescue the response he received was gigantic. He says people were messaging him, voicing their concerns about the ongoing issue of dogs being left in hot cars so he decided to do something to help.

On Saturday he invited dog and food lovers to come out to his food truck for a fundraising event.

One dollar from each sale he made that day was added to donations from customers and $212 was sent directly to the Kelowna SPCA and the Okanagan Small Dog Rescue Society.

“The support was fantastic, without my customers we wouldn’t have been able to do it,” says Hermanson. “A lot of awareness was brought to the problem and everyone who attended the food truck that day was talking about it and how we can’t get it through our heads that people are leaving pets in their cars in this kind of heat.”

Since the first day of fundraising was a success Hermanson says he isn’t stopping there.

“Anyone who comes to the food truck this week and donates to the cause until Saturday will receive free fries with their order and I will continue to donate into the pot as well,” said an excited Hermanson.

The Hermco Streetfood truck is located in North Glenmore just 5-minutes south of the landfill on Glenmore Road.
