Help make a difference in someone’s life by donating blood

As people gather with family and friends and prepare to celebrate the Easter long weekend, Canadian Blood Services is asking that they also remember to give blood.

The need for blood and platelet donations never takes a holiday – especially over a long weekend. With many people away or busy with family activities, blood donations normally decrease. We need people to book appointments now to donate blood leading up to, during and immediately following the long weekend to maintain a strong blood supply for patients.

On average, someone in Canada requires blood or blood products every 60 seconds - and in most cases, blood from more than just one generous donor. That’s why we are asking you to rally your family and friends to donate blood together. It can take up to 50 donors to help just one car crash victim, and it can take up to 5 donors to help someone in cancer treatment. Making a donation before or after the long weekend helps ensure an adequate supply for those in need.

The Kelowna blood donor clinic located at 103-1865 Dilworth Drive (across from Sears) will be open this long weekend on:

  • Thursday, Apr. 17, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – 26 open appointments
  • Saturday, Apr. 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – 55 open appointments
  • Monday, Apr. 21, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – 67 open appointment
  • Tuesday, Apr. 22, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – 53 open appointments

To book an appointment, please visit www.blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283). Those with appointments are encouraged to keep that appointment and, if possible, bring a friend to donate with you.
