From Behind The Chair

You are what you attract

You are what you attract. Often times, as humans we can become stuck on the reasons why certain situations always appear to happen to us. This is not a mystical black cloud that is perpetually hovering above our heads waiting for the perfect moment to ensure our lives have a certain amount of hardship. The solution is simple, and every clear-minded person can overcome this state of irritating turmoil.

While away on professional development a skeptical salon owner questioned the ancient concept of the law of attraction. He expressed his skepticism that it is next to impossible for someone to imagine their desired outcome and receive what they want in spades. His analogy was to desire wealth and receive it or desiring a watch and having it appear on your wrist tomorrow.

Anything that you want can be yours. However you are bound by the requirement that you must create a beauty of balance in your life. Without this balance it is next to impossible to maintain defined direction to your perfect end result. This balance can simply be broken down into the following categories: emotional, mental, physical and spiritual.

To obtain a clean slate you must first acknowledge your emotional ’filter’. Just like the back end of your blow dryer, our emotional filter can become clogged with draining energy which a lot of the time, we absorb from other people. You may not even know that you are doing it, but if a day of drama at work turns you into a hermit in the evening- your filter needs to be cleaned. Practice deep breathing techniques (yoga is great for this) to release the emotional tension and understand you can only be responsible for you.

As North Americans, we live in a culture where we work ourselves to death. Seldom allowing our minds to rest and focus on our own well-being. To balance your mental load, I highly recommend pre-planning your time away from work and always having something to look forward to. This could take form in a tropical holiday, upcoming concert or even a picnic with your best friend. There is nothing selfish in creating time for yourself - in fact it’s the only way you can guarantee sanity.

Our bodies are designed to be actively moving and with that need to be challenged in order to perform optimally. Don’t worry, I am not suggesting that you need to enroll in the Iron Man, but it is essential to treat your body like a temple - well most of the time (hey, we are all human). Choose a physical activity you enjoy (walking, yoga or cycling) and feed your body (and mind) with natural non-processed foods and water. I always recommend seeking a consultation with a natural health professional to search for any supplements your body may be missing.

A lot of people cringe at the mention of a spiritual aspect in their lives, because more times than not it is met with an opinion or lecture. My message to you, is that it does not matter what aspect of spiritual beliefs you choose, it is what makes the most sense to you that keeps your attention efficiently to keep you wanting to learn more. Nurture your spiritual side with further education on the subject or practicing meditation to clear your mind even more!

Even though there are only four main areas of focus, this will prove to be enough homework to keep you balanced for a lifetime. I personally find that life’s challenges can be overcome with the mindset of knowing that each situation we experience is a lesson. It is our responsibility to learn and grow from each scenario to guarantee a smooth transition on our journey that we call: life.
