'A man's world'

The look of fear on a man’s face at the mention of a ‘beauty regimen’ is always priceless to observe. Regularly I am asked whether or not a stylist at my salon will cut a guy’s hair - and I started to wonder why? I have succumbed to the fact some guys don’t know about ‘feel good’ services and practices that still preserve their masculine ego!

The average person’s hair grows about half an inch per month, and for men who favour shorter styles this sudden growth spurt usually results in a shaggy mess in about 3-5 weeks. To avoid confronting your overgrown ‘fro’ in the mirror, pre-book your next hair appointment before you leave your salon - ensuring your hair aggravation is short lived. Ask your salon for a ‘courtesy reminder’ call the night before, in case you forget!

Believe it or not, your style won’t be easy to re-create without a little help, and no, your stylist probably won’t visit your home before you leave for work. Take note of what professional hair care products he/she recommends and ask for a ‘break down’ of how they achieved your awesome look. If you are a ‘no frills’ kind of guy, ask about a product that will work in wet or dry hair. Step outside your box, and try something other than a basic gel.

Winter in the Okanagan is extremely dry and without providing your skin with the appropriate moisture you will notice flaking or peeling - this goes for your scalp and skin! If you are noticing flakes on your scalp I suggest using a conditioner to replenish the moisture balance. Dry scalp is often misdiagnosed for dandruff, and can be cured with one minute of conditioning a day! The skin on your face is just as important. Using a men’s skincare line ensures pH balance (which bar soap does not give) and moisture (to prevent aging). Don’t be afraid of the spa! Book a visit for a Sports Pedicure and ask your Esthetician for a guy’s skincare program.

Not only will your open mind for a new you make you look and feel great, the ladies adore a man who knows how to take care of himself (it’s far less of a project to complete). Happy grooming guys!
