Fresh is Best at The Eldorado

Dining at the restaurant in the Hotel Eldorado in Kelowna is something that should be experienced on a regular basis. A meal on the shores of Lake Okanagan is always picturesque and somehow makes the meal even more delicious.
This Kelowna restaurant prides itself on using as many fresh, local ingredients as possible as is evident when the Duo of Beef dish arrives at the table. The dish is as beautiful as it is tasty. The flank steak and short rib are paired with local vegetables, and the aromas wafting up from the plate are somehow reminiscent of home.
Kyle Nixon, Director of Food and Beverage at the Hotel Eldorado, has made it his goal to use as much fresh, locally sourced foods as possible, and has led the way in the Farm to Table movement. "We have local farms growing for us," explains Nixon. "Some of the vegetables are from Festers Peppers and others from Brookdale farms and others are from a lady who grows nothing but tomatoes."
One bite and you can tell the vegetables were probably picked that morning. Executive Chef, Eric Pless, calls the Duo of Beef "a little taste of Canada," and he is spot on in naming it. Alberta beef drizzled with a red win reduction is perfectly paired with a colourful array of vegetables. Beets, potatoes, beans, carrots, zucchini, arugula, and grape tomatoes combine flawlessly with the pancetta. The vegetables have just the right amount of crunch, allowing the garden fresh flavours to pour into your mouth with every bite.
The dish is paired with the Burrowing Owl's Syrah. This Okanagan wine is deep purple with delicious aromas that range from ripe blackberry to paprika and black pepper. It delivers on taste as well a velvety mouth feel with flavours of plum, blackberry and spice with soft silky tannins. It adds a warming touch to an Okanagan fall day.
The Eldorado's wine cellar is 85% BC wines, in keeping with the local theme. Of their draft beers, nine are locally brewed. It's their way of giving their restaurant customers a true taste of the Okanagan. "We are proud to be part of the vibrant restaurant industry in Kelowna and we want our clientele to know exactly what they are eating and where it came from. We also make out own pasta, breads, ice cream, gelato, and all of our side dishes, including sauces."
Dining at the Hotel Eldorado truly does represent the myriad of flavours available in and around Kelowna and the entire Okanagan. With a mandate of local and fresh ingredients, the menu at the Eldorado changes with the season. Watch for a review on their new November dish, Stuffed Chicken Ballotine, coming soon.
