Defeated Okanagan-Coquihalla Liberal candidate, Valerie Hallford, blamed the Tory advertising machine for the fall of her party in Tuesday's federal election.
Hallford, who finished a distant fourth, says she was disappointed on a personal level, but also nationally, where she says Canadians were 'hoodwinked' by Stephen Harper's lies.
"Many of the things that he claimed about our policies which were just not the case. What he said about the green shift and how it would destroy the economy and what not was simply not the case," says Hallford.
"I think it's reflective of the power of the medium of advertising. Even though people say they don't listen to negative advertising, they do and it is far more difficult to correct negative images then it is to establish them in the first place."
Hallford says the ruling Conservatives spent a lot of money trashing Stephane Dion and his reputation.
"Canadians had an opportunity to really make a positive shift to a truly sustainable economy and leave a truly sustainable green future for our children and grandchildren and this is not what has happened with this election."
