Tish Lakes is looking forward to the next federal election.
The rookie NDP candidate in Kelowna-Lake Country finished a distant second to incumbent Conservative, Ron Cannan Tuesday.
The NDP was third in the riding in the last election in 2006.
"It's been a great experience as a rookie campaigner. There have been some mistakes, some things we missed that we shouldn't have," says Lakes.
"I really liked getting out there. I really liked being at the public forums and door knocking and all that."
Nationally, Lakes gives credit to leader Jack Layton for a smart federal campaign.
"It looks like the NDP will gain seats and I think that's because Jack Layton has done such a great job on this campaign."
The NDP were leading or elected in 38 ridings, a gain of nine seats over 2006.
"I think that we came out soon enough with a really well laid out platform and Jack was able to come forward as a real stable leader."
