Conservative MP, Ron Cannan, was humbled and honoured that constituents in Kelowna-Lake Country re-elected him with an overwhelming mandate.
"We ran the campaign like we were down by two votes and we never took anything for granted," says Cannan.
"We have strong record in Kelowna-Lake Country of electing fiscally responsible conservative governments and you never know. It's like studying for your final exam and this was a report card and I'm really pleased with the results."
Cannan was re-elected with 56% of popular vote. In 2006, he was elected with less than 50% of the vote.
"Canadians have voted across the country and we have the third minority government. Maybe Canadians are getting used to working with a minority government. I hope we can work with a consensus and not have to have an election for many more years."
Cannan says, despite the stumbling economy, Canadians feel comfortable with the approached being taken by the Prime Minister.
"They want to pay down debt, reduce taxes and keep inflation low. That's the message I was hearing loud and clear."
He says he'll continue to work with local governments to secure specific infrastructure needs.
"I'll continue to work on issues like water and sewer upgrades, affordable housing and accessibility and continue to work with the RCMP."
