A Kelowna man has been nominated as the candidate for the upcoming federal election for the Communist Party of Canada in the Kelowna-Lake Country riding.
Mark Haley has lived in Canada since 1981, when he emigrated from the United States.
Haley, a 59-year-old food producer, says the Communist Party of Canada currently has 25 candidates running in five provinces.
“I just feel the times are such that everyone must become a little more engaged in taking responsibility for the future of our country and our planet. If I’m going to tell others to do that, I must be willing to do something on my own and that’s the reason for my candidacy,” says Haley.
He says he believes the Communist Party will bring forth a direction to the country that other parties will not.
“The main centerpiece of the party’s platform is the People’s Energy Plan for Canada, which is one example of the application of our Communist principals of planning for human and environmental needs rather than amassing private profit.”
