With days remaining until the Oct. 19 federal election, a local Conservative candidate is rolling out some notable endorsements.
Ron Cannan, the Conservative candidate and incumbent member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country, announced Wednesday a former mayor, a CEO and a philanthropist are throwing their collective weight behind him.
Walter Gray, Kelowna’s former four-term mayor, Troika Group CEO Renee Wasylyk and Thomas Budd, a retired banker turned philanthropist, are among the movers and shakers who've said they will be voting for Cannan in next week's federal election.
In a press release, the three praised Cannan’s record in Ottawa and his focus on the value of entrepreneurship and business.
Cannan has also received the endorsement of KF Aerospace founder Barry Lapointe, Big White senior vice-president Michael J. Ballingall, prominent Kelowna businessman Brad Bennett, as well as former kelowna fire chief and city councillor Gerry Zimmermann.
“The things that I look for in our political leadership are honesty, commitment and the ability to do the right thing. I found that both as fire chief and as city councillor that Ron had those qualities,” said Zimmermann.
Fellow politician James Baker, mayor of Lake Country, said Cannan is one of the hardest-working MPs he’s known.
Cannan also has the public backing of businessman Brock Elliot, president of Campion Marine.
