Shading your eyes this summer

With summer in full swing we think of beaches, barbeques and our favorite accessory…sunglasses. Nothing completes a look better. While we enjoy our time in the summer sun, longer exposure to the sun can also have some disadvantages. For starters, bright light and harsh ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause temporary and long-term damage to your vision and squinting your eyes for long periods of time can induce unnecessary headaches. Because of this, if you like spending any time outside, you should think about equipping yourself with some of the best sunglasses. I always recommend having a polarized lens in your sunglasses, getting all the protection you need as well as blocking out all glare.

This year's hottest trends with sun wear are revamped classics and vintage inspired styles. With nature inspired colors ranging from warm earthy tortoise, aqua or olive to honey toned, it will be tough to make a choice.

The classics. These are the ones we keep coming back to. They are not flashy but they are just so darn comfortable. With the classic wayfarer and aviator, you can never go wrong with your basic black but this year it gets revamped with neon colors and funky prints.

The vintage inspired styles like round and iconic cat eye are making a big impression. The bold 1950’s cat eye has always been a classic but this year it’s getting reinvented to have a softer look. Making them more modern by playing with pops of color throughout the frame. The hippie, free loving round. We used to see this look very traditional in basic black and brown. Now modern twists like mirrored lenses and unique finishes such as velvet are being added.

For those of you looking for a sportier look, there are lots to choose from too. Including bold colors and the same attention to details. You will not be left out.

Picking a style can be hard. Here are some tips to help you through:

  • A round face looks stylish with an oversized rectangular frame.
  • Heart shaped face - go for a classic aviator. It looks very chic.
  • Oval face - a great choice for a modern cat eye.
  • Angular face should try a round shape for a stylish look.

Whatever your choice, make it personal. It's summertime, have some fun with your style. Add a little color while protecting your precious eyes.
