Eyewear: fashion forward!

I have been wearing glasses since the age of two and back then there wasn’t much to choose from. The trend was to wear contact lenses if you could. Glasses were not flattering, were boring and there was not much selection. You were “nerdy” or “geeky” if you wore them. That’s not true anymore!

Going from a “nerdy” necessity to a fashion accessory, here are a few things everyone should consider when picking out new glasses:

1. Your face shape
2. Your hair color
3. Your personality
4. What you have had in the past that you liked or didn’t like.

Now, there are so many shapes, sizes and colors to choose from, really allowing you to be expressive. How do you want to be seen? Are you fashion forward? All business? Or, just looking for a fresh look? Eyewear can be the finishing touch on the look you're going for and make you feel more confident.

Regardless of your age, wearing glasses doesn’t have to be boring or just because you’re of a certain age who wears glasses, you are not doomed to bifocals, glasses hung from chains around the neck and the pastel frames you bought for $40 back in 1988. Pick the right eyeglasses and frames and you could actually shave years off your look. Pick the wrong ones (or stick with the dated look you've adopted) and you can add years to your look.

This spring, the trends in eyewear are modernized style or vintage inspired. Fresh twists on neutrals or brights. Bold shapes, cat’s eye glasses and even bright pink. Men’s eyewear is a mix of old school edgy, or neutral and flashy. Subtle patterns are in both men’s and women’s eyewear this year. Eyewear is not mono chromatic anymore.

With all the “rules” out there about what is best for your face shape, hair color or the look you want, sometimes, the rules are meant to be broken too. Once you start trying glasses on you will find what works for you and what doesn’t. Ask for the sales person's help. It's what they are there to do, help you.
