'Venus in Fur' hits Lake Country stage

Fred Skeleton Theatre Company is proud to present Venus In Fur This weekend only at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country.

Venus in Fur introduces us to Vanda (Dorothy Dalba), an unusually talented young actress determined to land the lead in Thomas' (Neville Bowman) new play based on the classic erotic novel, Venus in Fur. Vanda's emotionally charged audition for the gifted but demanding playwright/director becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex.

I caught up with the shows director Shannon Moore to find out a bit more about the production.

RB - In your own words please tell us what Venus in Fur is about to you and how you were able to bring it to life.

SM - Venus in Fur is a story with so many levels and so many themes. It's what I love about it. It's about passion, power, inner strength, sex, and looking beyond what you think you know. An actress comes to audition for a director, but the line get blurred between what is the audition, and what is a genuine spark between them.
The talent and dedication from the actors and the creative team is bringing this show to life. Earlier this year we read through the script a few times. Though it is a risky show, everyone involved was eager to tackle the challenging themes. It's a sexy, intelligent, award-winning piece, and once we read it, we couldn't get it out of our heads. We've been rehearsing since January, and bringing our research, questions, and ideas together every time we met.  It's been a real collaboration, and such a positive process.

RB - Will this production be family friendly?

SM - Due to the sexual themes and language I wouldn't recommend this production for a younger audience. But their Moms and Dads will have a good time :)

RB - Tell us a bit about the cast a crew you have assembled for this project.

SM - Dorothy Dalba and Neville Bowman star as Vanda and Thomas, and are captivating to watch perform. Thanks to their experience and excellent acting abilities, these two actors play their roles of actress and director with strength, vulnerability, humour, and honesty.
By my side have been Rob Mason-Brown and Andrew Taylor, who have been a huge support through the creation of Venus.  It is too difficult to sum up their jobs in one sentence, as they both have worked tirelessly to get this show up on it's feet. Bill Haidei is our set builder extraordinaire, and the brilliant Vanessa J. Lomas has tackled our lighting.  Together we compliment and bring out the best in each other. I am so thankful for this gifted team, and the Venus in Fur journey we've taken together.

Tickets are only $15 and are available by going to creeksidetheatre.com or by calling 250-766-9309.  You can also order them by clicking here.
