Actress Penny Marshall dies

Seventies sitcom star Penny Marshall has died, The Associated Press reports.

Marshall is best remembered as one half of the comedic duo "Laverne & Shirley."

Mashall's publicist says the actress and director died in her Hollywood Hills, Calif., home on Monday due to complications from diabetes. She was 75.

Marshall starred alongside Cindy Williams in the ABC hit "Laverne & Shirley," but went on to become a successful filmmaker and the first woman to direct a film that grossed more than $100 million with "Big."

Her directing credits also include "A League of Their Own," "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Awakenings."
