Angel Awards to shine

The sixth annual Angel Award Talent Competition and Gala Showcase in support of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis is May 20 at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna. Along with the top finalists from the talent competition, this year’s Gala Showcase features a line up of well known Okanagan performers.
Opening this year’s show is former Angel Award winner and BCCMA Award Winner Ben Klick. Ben is a rising Canadian Country star having opened for country music icon Tanya Tucker and has shared bills with Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Chase Bryant, Tim Hicks, and Brett Kissel.
Opening act II is Ari Neufeld, a self-made one-man band, hailing most recently from the Okanagan. He plays guitar, piano, banjo (but usually guitar), while singing and keeping time through an amplified stompbox with percussion strapped to his body. His performance covers a variety of genres from folk to pop, to new country, to rhythmic soul, to rock.

Closing act I is the popular Kelowna based band The Silverbacks. Featuring local radio personalities Gord Vizzutti (OK Oldies / Castanet) on guitar and Harry Callaghan (AM 1150) on drums, this six-member band brings their own garage attitude, punk infused and blues inspired sound to classic rock favourites.
Rounding out this year’s performers are renowned opera singer Melina Schein performing with Justin Moore and accompanied by Neville Bowman. Trained at the Juilliard School and having performed principal roles in Fiddler on the roof, My Fair Lady, The Magic Flute and many others, Melina will wow the audience with her vocal versatility.
Event founder Louise Boisvert will perform with her daughter, Elise backed by the OKM Choir.

Tickets can be purchased at the Rotary Centre for the Arts box office. Ticket details at www.angelaward.ca
Proceeds will go to Arthritis Research Canada, which estimates that arthritis now affects over 5.6 million Canadians, including more than 700,000 British Columbians.
