Veteran comedian Eddie Murphy is set to be honored with a lifetime achievement prize at the 2016 Hollywood Film Awards.

The Shrek star, who is picking up solid reviews for his dramatic role in new movie Mr. Church, will be presented with the Career Achievement Award at the 6 November (16) event.

"Eddie Murphy has had a spectacular career as a comedian, actor, writer, producer and director, spanning more than 35 years," said dick clark productions CEO Allen Shapiro. "We look forward to honoring his extraordinary body of work."

Previous recipients of the top accolade include Harrison Ford, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, and the late Robin Williams.

The 20th annual Hollywood Film Awards will be hosted by British actor and talk show host James Corden at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.

The news of Eddie's latest honor emerges weeks after he urged Academy Awards bosses not to wait too long to grant him an Oscar.

The funnyman, 55, was nominated for his role in Dreamgirls in 2007 but he has never picked up gold at Hollywood's big night, although he's certain he will be on the stage thanking his peers, mentors, agents and family members one day.

"Eventually they're gonna have to give me that s**t," he told The Hollywood Reporter last month (Sep16). "I already did 35 years in movies. Eventually y'all gonna have to give me something."

He then joked, "If y'all wait 'til I'm 85, 90, I'm gonna come out a 90-year-old dude, in a sky blue tuxedo... and I'm gonna walk out and when they give me the award and they hand it to me, I'm just gonna stand there and urinate on myself in front of the world - the whole world.

"Then they're gonna have to play that music and then they'll have to usher me off. That's gonna be my moment. Don't make me wait!"
