Mary Poppins is ready to fly

Kelowna Actors Studio’s production of Disney’s Mary Poppins is set to fly over the rooftops of London and alight at the Kelowna Community Theatre July 28 to August 6! This family musical features the delightful songs from the cherished Disney film including 'A Spoonful of Sugar', 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' and 'Step in Time'.

"We are very excited to be stretching our wings and taking a production of this magnitude into the Kelowna Community Theatre”, explains artistic director, Randy Leslie. “We have hired the professionals from New York City  to join our team and fly both Mary and Bert during the production.  Its a spectacle like you have never seen from KAS before!"

Winner of 44 major theatre awards from around the globe, Mary Poppins has captivated audiences for generations both on the silver screen and Broadway stage alike, with its enchanting story, unforgettable songs and dazzling dance numbers.  

George and Winifred live at Number 17, Cherry Tree Lane with their misbehaved children, whose latest nanny has just quit with a fit. Enter Mary Poppins, the “practically perfect” nanny who teaches with magic and bonds with the children as no other nanny has. 

The Actors Studio production will feature Dharma Bizier portraying the practically perfect nanny, Mary Poppins, and local actor Nathan Flavel is everyone’s favourite chimney sweep, Bert.

Jane and Michael Banks are played by Kate Hammer and Caden Hergott. Both are well acquainted with the stage having portrayed many characters in both main stage and student productions.

Anna Jacyszyn joins the cast as Mrs. Banks. This is Anna`s first professional stage musical since 1994 when she played alongside Craig Fergusson (The Late Late Show) in the Rock Musical Bad Boy Johnny and the Prophets of Doom. 

Don Plant will play George Banks.  

Special effects in the musical version of Mary Poppins will be provided by Hall and Associates Flying Effects who are being brought in specifically to allow Mary Poppins to fly over the KCT stage and to help Bert to do some fancy footwork as well!
