Paul Simon to retire

Paul Simon wants to retire.

The 74-year-old musician says his current tour could be his last as he no longer wants to be defined by his career.

He explained: ''It's an act of courage to let go. I am going to see what happens if I let go. Then I'm going to see, who am I? Or am I just this person that was defined by what I did? And if that's gone, if you have to make yourself, who are you?''

Paul also admitted he is sick of fame and blames it for the deaths of a number of superstars.

He told the New York Times: ''Showbiz doesn't hold any interest for me. None. I've seen fame turn into absolute poison when I was a kid in the '60s. It killed Elvis Presley. It killed John Lennon. It killed Michael Jackson. I've never known anyone to have gotten an enormous amount of fame who wasn't, at a minimum, confused by it and had a very hard time making decisions.''

Before retirement beckons, Paul has an upcoming European tour planned following the success of his latest album 'Stranger to Stranger' but once that finishes he is hoping to take time out to travel with his wife musician and composer Edie Brickell.
