Ricky Gervais won't apologise for his Caitlyn Jenner joke.
During his recent stint as Golden Globe Awards host, the 54-year-old comedian hit out at transgender reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner - previously known as Bruce - who was involved in a fatal car accident in Malibu in which one person died.
And when people claimed the joke was transphobic, Ricky hit back and insisted he would not say sorry.
He wrote: "Suggesting a joke about Caitlin Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist. You have every right to be offended. Just don't cry when no one cares (sic)."
During his opening monologue, Ricky quipped: "I've changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course. What a year she's had. She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn't do a lot for women drivers, but you can't have everything, can ya?"
And he went on to defend himself on Twitter, when one person wrote: "Re: Ricky Gervais's defence [sic] of his Caitlyn Jenner joke. If your joke is about a person's transition, it's probably transphobic (sic)."
Ricky hit back, saying: "What if it was about her killing someone with her car? Would that be okay? I made a joke about Caitlyn Jenner killing someone in her car. I'm #TransportPhobic (sic)."
Previously, Caitlyn was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing in relation to her car crash last February.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney (D.A.) decided not to charge the 65-year-old reality TV star with vehicular manslaughter and officially rejected the case because she wasn't speeding and her conduct was not "unreasonable" when she "set off a chain of events" that resulted in the death of a female driver, Kim Howe, in the multi-car pile-up on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
