Anne Hathaway felt like she was being "hunted" by the media.
The 'Devil Wears Prada' star has admitted she felt increasingly "unhappy" within herself, not helped by the negative comments made against her by some news outlets.
She said: "For a very long time I felt I was being hunted, and it made me very unhappy.
"But in the past few years I've been working on changing the script inside my head. Life's too short to be anyone but yourself. Let the chips fall where they may."
And referring to a specific news story titled along the lines of 'Why We Hate Anne Hathaway' published last year, the 32-year-old actress insisted there was a "certain type of media" which was more worried about clinching sales.
She added to InStyle magazine: "There is a certain type of media that trades on desperation and will paint someone with that filter if it will make them money, whether the story is true or not.
"That story was written by a man. Among the women I've worked with and met in my industry, I feel supported."
Meanwhile, Anne previously admitted she has learned to love herself and ignore her bullies.
She said: "I listened [to the bullies] at first. I couldn't help it. You try to shut it off, and I couldn't ... and then I realised why I couldn't is, I hadn't learned to love myself yet. I hadn't gotten there yet. And if you don't love yourself when someone else says horrible things to you, part of you is always going to believe them."
