Soul Music in Kamloops

Kamloops Symphony’s Soul Music
March 7, 2015 at Sagebrush Theatre

Kamloops Symphony’s next performance Soul Music will feature music from the heart on Saturday, March 7 at Sagebrush Theatre—with guest soloist Nicolò Eugelmi.

Eugelmi’s first appearance with the Kamloops Symphony was as the winner of their “New Celebrity Competition” in 1996. Eugelmi played Walton’s Viola Concerto then and, on March 7, he returns to play the same piece.

In 2012, Eugelmi performed as a member of the Fine Arts Quartet for a Kamloops Symphony chamber music performance. Eugelmi’s solo appearances include the Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal Symphony Orchestras, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, the CBC Radio Orchestra, and l’Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal. He has performed at some of the world’s finest venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, Kennedy Center, the Casals Festival Prades, the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Berlin Philharmonie.

This programme features music by Brahms and Dvořák, in addition to Walton. Both Brahms and Dvořák were at the peak of the Romantic era of composition. Dvořák wrote from the heart and Brahms’ compositions were driven by passion. Walton was late in the Romantic era of composition, but wrote with the same zeal and attention to detail as Brahms. All three composers have a soulful quality, and combined make up the Soul Music programme.
