Dropkick Murphys in Penticton

One of the biggest punk rock bands in the world brought their latest tour through Penticton on Sunday night and a packed crowd was at the Trade and Convention Centre to show their appreciation.

The Dropkick Murphys formed nearly 20 years ago in Quincy, Massachusetts and worked to build their fan base the old fashioned way, with constant touring and energetic live shows.

Now with eight studio albums and numerous hit singles -- including "I'm Shipping Up to Boston", which was featured in the 2006 Academy Award winning film 'The Departed' -- the Murphys have now garnered mainstream success, a rare commodity for this genre of Celtic punk music.

The other bands opening up the show included Bryan McPherson, a standalone folk-punk artist from Boston, and Blood or Whiskey, a Celtic punk band from Dublin, Ireland.
